Burn the Headlines are a great local rock band that are playing regular gigs in and around Norwich. I’m proud to have been involved in the shooting of one of their music videos earlier this year. My good friend Andrew Guyton was lead camera and asked if would assist him on the shoot. I immediately said “yes!” – its always good fun working with Andy as we work well together, bouncing ideas around. Will, one of the band’s guitarists was editing the video and had a definite idea of what he wanted. This is always helpful, time has a habit of slipping by whilst you’re scratching your chin over the next shot. So the date was picked and we all arrived (sort of) on time to set up!
The shoot
The day was spent at Beccles Public Hall setting up various shots and getting different angles. It was a really fun shoot, running around the theatre and stage and breaking many of the “rules of photography”! Will wanted a grungy look to the video, so we were shaking the cameras and constantly shifting focus and image framing to give an edgy look to it. After several run throughs, we concentrated on individual band members to get adequate footage of each of them for cutaway shots and solos. Once it was agreed that we had enough in the bag, we packed up and left it to Will to do the necessary hours toiling away with the editing suite.
I think the final result looks awesome and Will has done a fantastic job editing it. But I’ll leave it here to see what you think.
